The Old Spanish Trail movement was organized in the 1920's to promote a paved automobile highway across the southern United States connecting six centers of historical interest: St. Augustine, New Orleans, San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson and San Diego.
On March 27, 1924 Texas Governor Pat Neff dedicated the zero mile marker of the Old Spanish Trail on San Antonio City Hall grounds (corner of N. Flores and Commerce). The original highway ran through Government Hill along Old Seguin Road and New Braunfels Avenue before going through downtown and out Fredericksburg Road toward Boerne.
The Old Spanish Trail Centennial Celebration Association has been created to locate, revitalize and preserve the roadway, businesses and historic sites along the highway.
