We need Graymoor-Devondale residents to support the building of sound barriers along the Watterson from Westport Road to Highway 42. Current plans show that sound barriers will be located around the Westport Road interchange. Whether they are extended eastward toward Brownsboro Road depends on two things: (1) a study now being conducted by the Kentucky Department of Transportation and (2) the public input.
Your opinion counts very much. Typically, our transportation department has not favored sound barriers. In 1994, they said we did not need any barriers along this stretch of the Watterson. Strong public support can make a difference. We need to join our voices with the residents and leaders of Windy Hills and Windhurst Acres.
Sound barriers are important for reducing noise for those living near the Interstate. The noise will increase with the growing number of faster moving vehicles. Sound barriers also provide safety for homes bordering the Interstate. Trucks and cars hurl tires and other equipment into people?’s yards. Occasionally, a car or truck goes off the highway.
Tell the transportation officials that you live in Graymoor-Devondale. For those residents directly affected by the sound from the Watterson, explain how the noise affects your daily life and sleep. Individual stories and recommendations are much more effective than form letters.
Request that sound barrier walls be constructed along both sides of the Watterson from the new Westport Road interchange all the way to Highway 42 (Brownsboro Road).

Please copy The City of Graymoor-Devondale so we can monitor what kind of comments are being sent to KYDOT. We will summarize the comments for our state and local government officials. Please send a copy of your letter to City Clerk, Graymoor-Devondale, 1500 Lynn Way.
KYDOT will schedule a public hearing on this issue sometime during the summer. We will try to keep you notified of time and place.
If you have further questions about these sound barriers, call the Department of Transportation at 367-6411 and ask for Andrea Clifford, the public information officer.
