I live on Greenlawn one block east of Herr Lane. In the August Graymoor-Devondale Council meeting, John Vezeau reported on the intentions of a new group to build on the Stallings property across from Ballard H.S. This group is trying to get approvals to widen Herr Lane to 4 lanes from KY22 to the entrance to Ballard and to 3 lanes from the Ballard entrance to Wesboro. On the Stallings property, they want to put commercial buildings plus 8 condominium buildings, each of which will have as many as 39 apartment units. I wish to contribute to any organized effort to block this plan. As John reported, the developer is saying that ''Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church and Dan Huneke (Rodes Building) have agreed'' to the building proposal. This means that groups who have blocked previous attempts to widen Herr Lane may not stand up against this new one. How interested are others in working on this? I'm willing to commit multiple hours per week with the right leadership, and a few hundred dollars. Thank you.

PROPOSAL TO WIDEN HERE LANE

I COMMEND MR. ARDERY FOR HIS STAND AND
HIS WORDS. EVERY DAY IT SEEMS MORE OF
THE SURROUNDING LAND BECOMES DEVELOPED.
HERR LANE DOES NEED WIDENING BUT FOR THE CONDITIONS THAT NOW EXIST - NOT WHAT
IS PROPOSED. IT WILL BE A TOTAL DISASTER IF ALL THE SUGGESTED DEVELOPMENT IS APPROVED AND IMPLEMENTED.
IN 1992 WAS THE FIRST I KNEW OF THE PROPOSAL TO WIDEN THE XWAY AND WESTPORT ROAD AND HERE IT IS 13 YEARS LATER AND THAT IS STILL NOT COMPLETED. THERE IS HORRIBLE CONGESTION IN OUR AREA ALREADY. I KNOW PEOPLE DEEM IT PROGRESS, BUT I DO NOT FEEL THAT WAY. I WOULD LOVE TO BLOCK THE DEVELOPMENT BUT IT IS LIKE TRYING TO FIGHT CITY HALL. SMALL VICTORIES MAY BE POSSIBLE BUT IN THE END THE DEVELOPERS WILL WIN.
