According to information we have gathered from Public Records, roughly 10 percent of the homes in Greater MarLee are rental properties. By law, anyone who offers his/her property for rent, but lives outside the metro area; is required to hire a management company to oversee the property. It seems that many of these absentee landlords have either ignored this fact, or have retained management companies that care little for their clients?’ property.
A costly mistake in an aggressive real estate market like Denver?‘s.
In driving around our neighborhood, on nearly every block, I find most of the homes well kept( and many being renovated). However, it seems that there is always one house that is a shambles.
Multiple inoperative vehicles, unkempt yards, and in obvious need of repair. These homes, more often than not, are rentals. Understand that I do not mean to cast dispersions at folks who rent homes in MarLee; we?’re all neighbors.
I do, however take issue with those who rent their homes to all takers, and then essentially abandon the property (As long as the rent checks keep coming). Bottom line-we live here too, and as homeowners we have a vested interest in maintaining the character and integrity of our neighborhood. I think it?’s safe to say that we all feel we have a right to expect, if not demand, that those irresponsible landlords who profit in the short term respect the investment that we have made for the long term. We have written a letter to the
owners of rental properties in our neighborhood to let them know about our concerns. Once we have heard from the ?“landlords,?” I hope we can work together to make this a situation that can benefit us all, and be better neighbors in the process.
