In light of all flash and glitter and technology one possesses,  any political candidate , especially one who desires to lead a city, must talk to people on the streets in order to understand what is happening in Pawtucket.  Failure to do so will result in political, economic, and social disaster.

The first case in point:  The Councilor has a common sense view of what to do with abandoned homes in Pawtucket.  The first thing the councilor said on his website was the city should keep a record of which homes in the city are abandoned.   Coincidentally, the Planning Department has been keeping an active record on the addresses of all abandoned homes since January 2008.  

Second of all, in a related matter, the Councilor  said in September 2008 that a homeless problem in the city is a shame and someone should deal with the issue. Unknown to the candidate, the mayor's office began the homeless task force in 2007.  As a result of the task force work, 23 new housing units for low income and homeless  will be ready in Pawtucket by 2009 and 2010.  A homeless shelter for six men was finished in May 2008. 

In closing, despite the technological advantages the councilor has in his possession, he must talk to people to stay informed.  Political, economic, and social distress will increase in the city if an uninformed novice is voted to lead.   

Interesting points and I would hope that all candidates have been wearing out the shoes and their hands with talking to residents and asking questions, answering queries and presenting positive solutions to keep Pawtucket at the top of recovery possibilities.

I assume that the 6 million bucks that we will be asked to approve for local bonds are part of that recovery. I am not sure if that is proportionately larger or smaller than the past. Coupled with the 90 million bucks from the state and the tax anticipation bonds the state is selling Monday, we sure are taking in a bunch of money.

I would certainly support the RI open spaces bond which I think is only 2.5 million because it helps the federal match and some of the dollars I believe are for the fish ladders at Slater Mill and other Blackstone River areas of Pawtucket.

I would hope all candidates and voters explore all the possibles and research the best decisions for 2009 and beyond as our future and our kids and our grandkids depend on this critical turning point.
