Once again, Gwinnett County and most of North Georgia are experiencing severe drought conditions. We are fortunate here in Gwinnett County that we do not yet have a total outdoor watering ban. However, the odd-even system is even further restricted this summer of 2007.
Exceptions are businesses and new installation of lawns or gardens (check with the county to confirm that your new landscaping is included). Vegetable gardens may be watered as needed.
If your street address is an odd number, ending with 1, 3, 5, 7,or 9, you may water:
Tuesday, midnight to 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, midnight to 10:00 a.m.
Sunday, midnight to 10:00 a.m
If your street address is an even number, ending with 0,2,4,6,8, you may water:
Monday, midnight to 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, midnight to 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, midnight to 10:00 a.m
The times of day allowed for watering are State of Georgia restrictions for the entire state.
You may consider purchasing a simple mechanical or automated timer for your outdoor hose bibs. Some are battery operated and may be programmed for two watering stations.
For individual outdoor plants, such as potted plants on yor porch or deck, you may save run off sink water or bath water. A little soap won't hurt them, and in everyday use, a lot of water runs down the drain.
Use normal conservation methods in your everyday water usage. For instance, don't let the water run while you brush your teeth. Use only what you need, and turn the faucet off in between. Don't run the dishwasher without a full load.
