In Lakewood, to have a block party, you must first obtain a block party permit. Application for a permit is made at the City Clerk's Office. Fill out the City of Lakewood Permit Application Form (in triplicate). Attach to it a map or drawing showing the area where the party will be located and a statement of permission from the people that live in the area where the block party is being held (provide a list of handwritten signatures along with their addresses).
The cost for initial application is a $25 nonrefundable application fee and a $5 permit fee. After your application is completed and turned in, it is routed to Traffic Engineering and the Police Department for their approval. This routing process takes approximately 5 days. The City Clerk's office will notify you of approval or disapproval of the application.
If barricades are recommended by Traffic Engineering, you can contact Colorado Barricade, 303-922-7815, for information regarding rental of such barricades. It is the responsibility of the applicant, NOT the City, to barricade the streets.
If you have questions regarding a permit for a Block Party, call the City Clerk's office at 303-987-7080. One of your questions might have to do with liability issues surrounding a block party.
