IN THE GCA SPOTLIGHT ...is Joan Vegezzi, newly elected President of the Greentrees Garden Club and dedicated worker.

Joan and husband John are transplanted Mississippians, both from Tchula in the Delta. They came to Memphis in 1958 and to Wild Berry Lane in Greentrees in 1976 and became involved in its activities. Joan joined the Garden Club and John served as President in 1982-83. Their one son John Tyler Vegezzi lives in Rochester Hills, Mich. with his wife Elizabeth, and 3 darling daughters - Lindsay, Haley and Sidney. John, Sr. retired from the Memphis Police Department in 1988. Several friends have provided information about this energetic personality. She has worked on numerous committees within the Garden Club, including many years in the group that arranges the Annual Garden Tour. She has served as Block Captain for Wild Berry Lane, then Block Captain Coordinator, member of the GCA's Executive Committee; member and then Chairman of the Nominating Committee for New Officers. She also has worked for many years in her local Precinct in City, County, State and Federal Elections.
Joan keeps her yard and garden spic and span, earning the Garden Club's "Yard of the Month" award several years ago. Her interests range from daily walking, to painting, to gardening, to antiques. She has created a Notebook for Block Captains which could be a model for any civic group and has worked with her friend and neighbor 2nd VP Ann Brown to put together a packet of helpful information for Newcomers to Greentrees. Her warm smile and personality help her make friends easily. They also make it difficult to say "No" when she asks you to run for office or help Greentrees in some way. Thanks, Joan, for all you have done and are doing for us!
