July 4th Parade, Greentrees U.S.A....A Parade Packed with Patriotism!...

Please plan on being a part of this celebration! It all starts on Sunburst Cove. Parade marshals will line you up at 10: 00 AM. Parade will "move out" at 10:30 AM. Route: Sunburst to Thornwood to Holmes Park. March with "Uncle Sam" and "Lady Liberty. "

Invite your neighbors. Decorate your bikes, trikes, wagons, strollers, scooters, convertibles,
vintage autos, etc.
Veterans: wear your uniforms and march with us!

If you're watching the Parade, line up on Thornwood, wave your flags and follow the Parade to Holmes Park for hot dogs, watermelon, sodas....or pack a "brown bag lunch.." First come, first served!

Visit with neighbors and listen to the music! Bring your blankets and lawn chairs.

Memphis N'hood Leaders Conference:

MLGW will hold its annual Neighborhood Leaders Conference August I" at MLGW Training & Development Center at 4949 Raleigh?LaGrange. The Conference offers free technical assistance to neighborhood leaders. GCA representatives will be present.

.... It is the constant effort of your officers and Executive Committee to see that GCA homeowners are kept up?to?date on matters affecting you. We try to do this with quarterly newsletters and through the GCA website shown at the top of this letterhead. Pam Brown, our Webmaster, does an excellent job. Click on this site to see items that fall in between the publication dates of the Newsletter. We are indebted to former President Bonnie Ragland for talking Pam into taking this job!

President Phillips reports: "GCA had the most popular booth at the Annual Neighborhood Fest at Audubon Park, Saturday, April 26, sponsored by the City of Memphis' Center for Neighborhoods.
"Our unique banner and a beautifully designed portrait board featuring homes in the subdivision were the center of our booth .....

Family members of Judge Andrew Owens Holmes, GCA officers and members, City of Memphis representatives and others were present May 20th when a bas?relief stature of the Judge was unveiled. The
plaque was created by Memphis Ornamental Metal Museum Foundation, with art work by Clay Enoch.
Holmes Park was officially dedicated October 24, 1999.
"To have such a lovely spot in East Memphis, where children can romp and play, where others can walk, sit, read, or quietly observe the birds and animals and flowers, is a fitting tribute to Judge Holmes and all those who worked so hard to see this Park become a reality," President Phillips stated.

Russell Hill, who over?sees activities in Holmes Park, and Kirby Parkway, says "Thank you,?”
to all those who helped on "Clean?Up Day" at the Park on Saturday, June 14th.

Greentrees Spotlights ANN ELLIOTT .........
We're sure that many of you have wondered who that attractive blonde is ... the one planting, watering, cleaning up the flower beds in Holmes Park. Wonder no more! Her name is Ann Elliott and she is "Spotlighted" in this Newsletter. We are indebted to Angie Yeiser for the suggestion.
Born and reared in Norfolk, VA, Ann graduated from William & Mary in 1958. She has been a
Travel agent, medical receptionist and transcriptionist. She and husband Rodney live at 1958 Old Lake Pike. The couple has one son, Bain(living in Memphis), one daughter, Gregg (living in Davis, CA), and a two?year old granddaughter, Mariet. Ann is multi?talented and faceted. Her interests center on art and gardening. A member of GCA since 1982, she has worked on several committees, and is presently a Block Captain and a member of the Executive Committee. She is a past member of the GCA Garden Club and the couples' home was featured on the 2001 Garden Tour. Some current activities include membership in the Memphis Horticultural Society; Memphis Botanical Garden; Mid South Hosta Society. She's a Master Gardener, works with the Baptist Memorial Hospital hospice on their annual "Art of Caring" Auction; with Habitat for Humanity in landscape planning and planting at homes to be built. She still finds time to help friends and her son with garden planting and upkeep. Thanks, Ann, for all you have done and are doing for Greentrees! EAST POLICE PRECINCT NEWS ? "National Night Out" Art Herr and Mark White represent GCA at the East Police Precinct. Art has passed on the following information from its May 2003 News Letter: "Kickoff for National Night Out will be held at the Fairgrounds Monday, August 4, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. EPP officials need to know how many associations will be participating. Representatives will be at the Fairgrounds to pass out packets, T?shirts, to each neighborhood watch group participating. "National Night Out" will be Tuesday, August from 6:OO PM til 9:00 PM. Just remember to turn on your porch lights that evening to show your support for this special night. Mark your calendars!

The 9th Annual Greentrees Garden Tour held Saturday, June 7, 2003, was a HUGE success! We had six gracious Greentrees residents who offered their gardens for viewing. All of the gardens were beautiful and each had a different landscaping style.
The homeowners and gardens featured were: John and Ramona Seabold, 2109 Firefly Cove; Leonard and Elaine Lurie, 1957 Kirby Parkway;
Al and Connie Davidson, 6765 Sunburst Cove;
Elsie Ross, 2159 Hickory Crest Drive;
Charles and Sandra Trammell, 2068 Black Oak Drive;
Wilma Goode, 2093 Hickory Crest Drive.

Thank you, Homeowners, for allowing us to show and enjoy your gardens. Also, thank you, Neighbors, for staffing the gardens. As members of the Greentrees Garden Club Tour Committee, we are looking forward to our 10th Annual Tour and we hope many of you will offer your gardens for touring on June 5, 2004.
