Hi Everyone,
My name is Juliana, and I started this page to connect with the neighborhood, and see why there is no articles or hoopla over this fabulous part of the city of Detroit. To me, it is the bext area to live in. Within minutes of everything.
I grew up on West Nevada. My grandparents bought the house in 1930, and it stayed in our family until 2005. I believe it is one of the only houses left on the street that hasn't been burned down. I would like to see my old family home, and all the other homes that are still salvagable, be refurbished and brought back to their original beauty.
I see so much going on in every other area, but it seems Grixdale Farms is viewed as hopeless. Now, I currently reside in TN, but plan to move back in the next 2 years. I know I probably don't have any rights to start a page whenI live 8 hours away. Well, let me tell you this. I lived there when Ted's on the Park was still open. I love that neighborhood and consider it "home". The history my family has in that neighborhood goes back to before WWII. I will go into that another time, but it is a history that I am very proud of. To see so many houses, with so many memories for so many families, just sitting there boarded up is a crime. We have to make noise and get people to listen, and even though I am far away, I am willing to do whatever I can to get this going. I would like to buy back our old home, get the riff raff out of the neighborhood, open an arts, crafts and trade school for children and young adults to learn the basics of being a responsible adult, plus explore thier inner artist. Learn how to do age appropriate skills, from fixing a flat tire on thier bike, to changing the oil in their car, to installing a new faucet in their mothers kitchen sink. Learning to cook a healthy meal. The sky is the limit.
Let's show the rest of the city that Grixdale farms is NOT to be ignored. And that the location, the people, and the children deserve the best that live has to offer. Not expensive condo's on the waterfront that only the rich can afford, but an affordable safe place to raise a family with healthy extracurricular afterschool activities to do.
Now, becasue I am 8 hours away, some or all of this may be already going on. So, I need to hear from you. What is going on in Grixdale Farms?
Tell me about the status of the schools, the churches, the grant programs available for buying and refurbishing housing, the afterschool programs, the local businesses. I hope it is not all party stores because that has to change if it is. We need family businesses. Affordable hair salons within walking distance, low priced grocers like Aldi on 7 mile or Woodward. We need an ice cream parlor where you can have Birthday parties. Like I said, the sky is the limit. we just have to believe in it, and do the work so our children and grandchildren can have a life better than ours.
So, feel free to write me, or comment and lets get talking.
Thanks everyone.
Juliana
