I don't know why the ordinance was originally set up but I sure agree with it.  I was raised in Berkley.  We had a one car garage and 2 cars.  When the person parked in the garage wanted to get out first, one of us had to move the second car.  We then pulled the car back into the drive.  We NEVER left our car on the street.  As we (kids) got older, we naturally had more cars in the drive.  Same thing.  It also benefits the police.  All residents know their car(s) must be off the street between those hours.  When the police patrol the neighborhoods and see a car parked on the street, it just might be someone who is up to no good.  I get Crime Alerts for my city and you can't imagine the number of incidents reported involving cars parked on the street.  When you don't have cars parked on the street, crime drops and frees the police to handle what's really important.  This cuts down on them also having to reporting incidents involving parked cars, thus saving the taxpayers money.  I live in Dearborn Heights.  We don't have that law (yet) and we see Middle Eastern people making rooms out of their garages so their cars go in the street.  We have cars parked all over the streets.  The city can't clean the streets properly because of the parked cars.  People also nowadays have so much "stuff" they have to use their garages as storage.  Clean up your act, people.  Garages are for cars - not for family rooms and not for anything more than minimal storage.  I go back to Berkley all the time and am struck at how nice the city ALWAYS looks - and one of the things that keeps it that way is the NO PARKING between 2 and 6.  I say - GOOD FOR YOU, BERKLEY.
