neighborhood community justice

Posted in: Groves-Lincoln Park
To all neighbors: The county attorney's office is interested in starting a community justice board in our neighborhood. It would be volunteer. We would hear cases of defendants who have pleaded guilty to 1st or possible 2nd offense crimes (not major felony stuff!). We would set and administer sentence for crime...restitution, community service, reports, whatever. Would be a panel of residents; we could rotate and or mix groups. Possibly could extend to other neighborhoods as well. What do you think? Would you like to hear more? Participate? Certainly would be taking back our neighborhood.

It Really Works

If you were to talk to Manny Herrera in the Sunnyside N.A. he could tell you how well it has worked since they implemented their program. We are in the process of starting a Juvenile Justice Board here in Midvale Park, we already have a Restorative Justice Program in place that Larry LaFond started a few years ago and is still going strong!
Both are excellent avenues for our youth to take responsibility for their actions in their own neighborhood and hopefully instill a sense of pride in their neighborhoods, let's face it, our children are our neighborhood's future.
Best of luck with your program, I know you will succeed.
