Last night, starting at 1:00am in the morning, the drunkards living in the third house south of Fuqua and Ballantine were out burning rubber again. As I have been doing for the past year, I called the police. The police came out around 2:30am - about thirty minutes after I called. I took my camera out to take pictures of them but my camera is an older model and from my house all I can get is fuzzy images. The police said there wasn't anything they could do because the men had already parked their truck and were standing in front of their house. The apathy of the police terrible. They should have impounded the truck as evidence, taken pictures of the tread marks, measured the distance between the tire marks, and measured those against the tread on the tires of the lone truck parked in the street along with the width between the tires of the truck. Impounding the truck would have stopped these men from doing this for a while if nothing else. However, it is the city's responsibility to come out and clean off these tire burn marks we have at Fuqua and Ballantine Street.
Here are the problems as I see it: A)I believe these men have a police band radio in their truck. I say this because every time I have ever called they park the truck, get out of it, and stand in the yard. Even the few times the police have responded within fifteen minutes these guys always park their vehicle and get out of it before the police even show up. B)The Police should be more aggressive about this. Instead of being apathetic about it. C)The Police should come up with a simple code that they can say instead of saying the squad car needs to come to the intersection. If the men do have a police band radio - this is the only way they will be able to come upon them unawares. D)The Police should come to the site with their headlights off, no siren, and no falshing lights. The few times the police came early - all three were going which let me see they were coming from over a mile away. (At night sounds carry farther so you could hear the siren long before you ever saw any lights.), and E)The Police should come from another direction rather than Fuqua - like from the north side of Fuqua on Ballantine Street. There aren't any street lights north of the intersection so this would mask their coming.
It isn't hard to even see where these men live. There are black streak marks all the way up to their driveway. So this is like a murder with the body laying there, the murderer is standing next to the body, but the Police go "Well, there's nothing we can do about it. We didn't see him do it so we can't arrest him." Now THAT's apathy talking.
