HELP WANTED: Community Crime Watch

Posted in: Copper Grove

Hi everyone!

The HOA has tasked me with building our new community crime watch. I'm going to be canvassing the neighborhood over the next few weeks to find out how safe everyone feels in the neighborhood and discuss how we can all make our neighborhood a little less enticing to burglars.

The first thing we need are a few people to volunteer as street captains. Street captains keep in touch with their neighbors and share ideas and issues with the committee. As a street captain, your responsibilities are very simple, but VERY important. If you are interested in taking charge of your part of the neighborhood as a street captain, please email me at shawn.plew@gmail.com - this is my personal email address and I'd love to hear from you.

I will also be in touch with the local police department and will work on a neighborhood gathering with a few representatives. If you are an officer or if you know someone who can help point me in the right direction, please let me know. It always helps to know someone when trying to steer thru the bureaucracy.

I'd love to hear from you on this forum - what are you doing today to help deter criminals? What would you like the crime watch to do?

In case anyone's interested, here's the link to Indy's Crime Watch website: http://www.indy.gov/eGov/IMPD/Involved/Watch/Pages/home.aspx

I have contacted the Southeast District CrimeWatch specialist and will let you all know what I find out.

I just received a response from the specialist and will be scheduling a neighborhood meeting with her in mid to late January. I will provide more information when I canvass. Stay tuned!
