My wife and I recently volunteered to pick up litter at the Spring Station entrance.  We have done so for the past 3 Friday evenings.  I am amazed at how much additional litter accumulates just overnight!  It is not a stretch to drive through there on a Saturday morning and see additional cans, bottles and other assorted trash strewn about...

We do not mind aiding the cause to make our area look better, but I'm trying to come up with other thoughts as well.  What about the addition of "No Littering" signs?  Of course, their legality would need to be researched, but it might be a deterrent to those that choose to think the entrance is a McDonald's waste container or a bottle recycling center...

I agree with you!  We live at the very first four way stop into the subdivision and we are picking up trash daily at the stop signs.

Are there littering laws in Louisville?  Where I grew up there were fines for littering - I wonder if we could find out and put up signs stating what that is?

I agree completely!  I do believe we need to funnel this through the HOA leadership.  There is a relatively new group in place that wants to make our neighborhood a nice place.  Through the involvement of concerned citizens like us, their goals can be met, but everyone needs to help where we can...

The litter through the Brook Bend forest area has been an issue for some time. We thought for a long time that it was mostly kids cutting through to get over to Mt. Washington Rd or the subdivision at the first four way to the right. Either way, it is a problem that the current board is aware of. Installing signs is one idea but I don't think that the signs are going to deter the type of folks that are causing the littering. One of the major improvements that the board is discussing is to replace all the street signs in the HOA and adding signage at Spring Falls Farm. Also we have talked about speed limit, children at play, etc. signage throughout the community. These types of signs are not enforceable by LMPD and are considered illegal when placed on the right of way. We are in contact with Metro Works to determine how to address these issue and go about things in the correct way. Thanks so much to concerned residents like apcguy and his willingness to help make the place he considers home a better place to live for the entire community. And he is correct, the current board needs all the help they can get. It is going to take some time but we will succeed.
