A one-hour village-wide meeting is scheduled for May 18th at 10:30am in the Home of Jack and Edna Pettitt at 3749 Brightwell Lane. The purpose of this meeting will be to evaluate the work of the five-member village delegation established on January 26th, identify issues and topics that should be acted upon in the upcoming months, and to identify two ?‘at-large?’ delegation representatives.
Following the surprise receipt of accrued water bills by nearly everyone in the village in early January of 2002, a village-wide meeting was convened. With 67% of the unit owners represented at the January 26th meeting at the home of John & Kathy Spinelli, the group agreed to the formation of a HomeStead Owners Group (HOG), and based on the Anthony Plan identified five districts and five representatives.
Their primary mission was to submit a written proposal to the builder that we would pay only bills from November 2001 forward, and that homeowners who paid water bills prior to November 2001 would be reimbursed by the builder. Finally, they were to ensure that the builder pay the difference between the master meter reading and the collective unit owners water usage, thereby preventing the builder from passing along its proprietary use of water in the village. Moreover, they were to meet on a regular basis and, most importantly, communicate back to all of us as soon as possible about their activities.
At this meeting, Martha Thomas stressed the importance of having strong enforcement of our condo rules so standards aren?’t compromised, and Bill Troy underscored the necessity to keep a record of meetings for future reference and use.
To date, HOG has met five times, with their next meeting scheduled for June 7th at 3:00pm at the clubhouse. Please mark your schedule for this meeting and take the time to attend. It?’s very important that we understand that someday we will be in control of our private development, but until that time, we must impress upon the builder who currently controls our money and our association that their decisions must be made with our highest interests in mind, and with our full advise and consent.
Democracy is a form of governance that we hold above all others. As a village small enough to make democracy a workable process, we should strive to utilize our collective intelligence and spirit to build a village that we can all be proud of, and one in which we can all play a part in decision making.
