Hamilton Highlands Subdivision

  Im sure not many cares, but, I was very dissapointed with the lack of sellers for the "COMMUNITY SALES". There was 6 sales in the entire neighborhood. People asking where all the signs were also. The 1 was almost in the weeds on Harshaw!? I would think if some of us would clean up around our yards, we would've had a lot to sale. I just don't understand where our concern for property's gone in past 2 years??? SAD....

I'm not trying to be rude but there are much more important and legitimate issues in the neighborhood then worrying about people that don't wan't to participate in a garage sale. What happened to the homeowners association, it doesn't seem like one exists anymore. No community meetings or communication with the members. Do they even have meetings within the board? Nobody knows because they do not communicate to anyone in any way besides this website, which seems to only be used to complain. Not to mention that not many know about this website. I think the board members should have a meeting to discuss issues if they haven't done so already and then let the community know what is going on by means of a community flyer or some other means that would get to each home, and include this website on the flyer so everyone can be aware of it. There must be a pot of money since they did not collect homeonwners fees, which could be used to make copies. Each board member pick a street and over the course of a few days distribute the flyer and at the least, members would know that an association still exists, who the board members are, and what issues are at hand. This is obviously just a suggestion, but in one way or another let the entire community know what is going on!

I was also surprised about the lack of participation in the community.  The fall date was set back in May/June and posted on the website so everyone had plenty of time to prepare.   I can answer about the "1 sign almost in the weeds".  I had planned on putting the 2 signs at the corner, but there were workers out there.  I didn't know what they were going to do nor how long they were going to be working.  I felt it would be better to put them in the landscaped area of the entrances but I didn't want to put them right in front of our Hamilton Highlands signs.  Sorry that I didn't do better on them.  There were also supposed to be 2 more signs on each side of the entrances on the sides with the trees (which I wasn't responsible for).  I didn't see them, so I either missed them or he didn't put them up.  People really miss-out on a great opportunity to unload some of those things they no longer need.   They get city-wide advertisement on the website, the local area newspapers and the Columbus Dispatch. 

I don't think our neighbor was complaining about the poor participation at the community sale, I think they were merely making an observation.   I think their main concern was the lack of interest that some homeowners have in their homes/yards.  I have gone by some homes that had their garage doors open only to see it piled high of stuff from top to bottom and side to side.   What is sad to our neighbor, and me, is that they had the perfect opportunity to rid themselves of all this extra baggage and at the same time spruce up their home/yard. 

Maybe I can be of some help on your other concern regarding the Homeowner's Associaton.   It still exists.  You're right, there haven't been any meetings/communication for a while.  The trustees used to have meetings, newsletters etc.  The reason that hasn't happened for a while is because there is practically no one helping.   It takes people to make it work correctly.  The Vice-President is virtually alone in his endeavors right now and has been for quite some time.  I have been temporarily (for quite a while) keeping up the paperwork, accounting etc.  I have been keeping this website up-to-date to at least keep people advised of expenses etc.  I don't agree that this website is only used to complain.  Everyone has opinions and just because you or I might not agree doesn't mean they are complaining.  They are opening up the door for a legitimate discussion on issues that are important to them.  As far as many people not knowing about this website,  there is no reason (unless they may be new to our community) they shouldn't because every newsletter, invoice, communication that has gone out over the years has always listed our website.   Yes, we had tried to get something going (i.e. newsletter), but that didn't happen.  No, there is no pot of money.  We are running on dues collected and liens collected.  There are even still homeowners that haven't paid their delinquent dues.  They think they shouldn't have to pay $30 a year for dues.  They don't mind that the entrances, access lot and detention area are well maintained--that problems were addressed--communications were sent out-- meetings were held-taxes are paid.  And I might add that all of these things have been paid for by the homeowners that have willingly paid their dues because they cared about their community.  The majority of those people that are still in arrears never attended a single meeting, a single get-together or offered to help.   It's easy to say each board member pick a street, distribute the flyer etc.   That's what we were doing.  But even when we were doing it, that was never enough for some people.  One last note, thank you for the suggestions and if at all possible, something will be done to plan a homeowner meeting/get-together in the near future.  You sound like someone who does care about our community.  Maybe you could assist the trustee(s) with the planning of the things that need to be done.
