Some things that the City Agent informed us of:
Code enforcement cannot enter property. If you have a problem with something in someone's back yard, be sure to give the agent your address so they can go to your house to document and see the violation.
Parking across sidewalks is ILLEGAL: call 645-4545 to report it to a police officer.
Basketball hoops: if they are on sidewalks or hanging into streets, it is ILLEGAL, call 645-4545 to report it to a police officer.
Tall grass: there are steps they must take to rectify the situation which normally takes 4-6 weeks. You report it to 311 which takes 2 weeks, then they notify the owners which is another 2 weeks, then they report it to the sub-contractor which takes another 2 weeks. That is the state law on this situation.
Code Enforcement does not enforce deed restrictions.
When you call (or file a complaint on-line) ask for a confirmation number. If you have not heard anything after 2 weeks, re-contact them. It also is of great help if you take pictures of the problem.
Drug problems: there are 3 houses in our community that are on police watch. If you see anything strange, do not hesitate to record license plate numbers and description of vehicles to the police to help in their investigation.
Lights are a good way to ward off crime. The more lit-up your house is, the less prone it is to criminal activity.
Vehicles: tags must be current, you may not have more than 1 flat tire on the vehicle. If parking on street, vehicle must be moved every 72 hours. If you have a problem, call 645-4545 for the police to chalk the vehicle's tires. Of course, there are always times that people are having family gatherings at holidays, etc., so use good judgment on this issue. Again, parking across sidewalks is illegal.
Please do not hesitate to contact 311 for any problems with city code. We also have the Code Enforcement Supervisor'ss personal phone number in case there is something that isn't taken care of in a reasonable amount of time.
