At the November HCA meeting, Officer Todd Brubaker of the Fort Collins Police provided valuable information about crime statistics and prevention in our area. Here are some noteworthy points from his presentation:
OFFICER DEPLOYMENT
There are 138 officers in the Fort Collins Police Department.
Fort Collins police officers are geographically
deployed.
The Hamlet is in the Area 3 patrol district (from Drake and College to Carpenter and I-25).
Between 2 and 4 officers regularly patrol our area at night. (Todd Brubaker is one of the officers assigned to Area 3.) The maximum number are on duty during peak hours.
Assigned officers patrol the same areas all the time to ensure consistency and familiarity.
6 officers are permanently assigned to traffic duty.
CRIMES SINCE JANUARY 1
There were no major incidents or violent crimes in our area. Below is a summary of most of the incidents that occurred.
2 burglaries
36 alarm calls (alarm system went off ?– many were false alarms)
13 radar traffic stops
18 parking and traffic problems
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
Officer Brubaker recommends a Neighborhood Watch program. (Statistics indicate that more crimes are prevented, interrupted, or solved with the intervention of watchful neighbors than with home alarm systems.)
Lock all doors and windows.
Call police if you see or hear anything suspicious. Use 911 for emergencies only. In an emergency, police response time is 5 to 10 minutes. For non-emergencies, call 221-6555.
