Ms Green- cahirman Harry stone crime watch

What is this about a death threat made to you?? My mom said she heard from a friend who has a friend who is a neighbor in our area.   The unnamed nieghbor said she was told taht a death threat was made to our crime watch chairman before the last 8/31 meeting.  I told my mom you still held the meeting and did not appear shaken at all.

granted, this is third hand but wow- how it spread to my folks in 75244?

My mom and dad are concerned about my safety and sicne they help me pay my rent- I have been asked to consider moving further east to Mesquite.

Is this true? have you notified the police? What did they say? what are they doing about it? Why would anyone want to do taht?

This sounds serious after we have had that Andrea incident.

Heaven forbide it is not true, becaseu that is unfair to scare our older neighbors.  plus what an embarrassment taht would be.

Which is it?  Treu or not true. Will you cover it in your e-mail you told us is coming soon to this site?

Novice-

I have not heard anything about a death threat to our chairman- in fact, I don't receive any e-mails from the chairman and yet I was one of the 4 founders of our crime watch back in 2004.

Surpised you had to hear from folks outside our neighborhood. I doubt it is true; but that is my personal opinion. Maybe the Chairman will post a response to your question or you should call her directly.

Your other comments on our crime watch in response to Pecan under "Could this flyer be included in the previous e-mails?" heading are sad and embarrassing.

(NEIGHBORS- you should read this Novice person's discussion)

First-  let me assure you that there is a "volunteer" sub committee of our neighbors working on most of the issues you raised.  12 volunteered and 8 met recently.

This sub committee even invited our Chairman who chose not to attend even though she told a member twice she was coming. (?)  Plus there has been no posted reason why and yet some neighbors get these long e-mails from the Chairman on everything else all the time!

It is true we have been dormant for nearly 3 years.

We have had no transparency of our own crime watch during this time and even to this day!

In answer to your questions on other crime watch officers, we have not had any for over 4 years. And we have no webmaster. Only one person has ever had access to the internal workings of our crime watch's website- the chairman- and she has never delegated it or even asked for anyone's help (?).

You are also right- we really never had an agenda beforehand or during any HSCW meetings.

I cannot answer why someone would answer/post in red letters a response to another neighbor.

Re: the 8/31 meeting- I was unable to attend but also heard it never got to the topic of elections which to me are sorely needed.

It sounds like a hastily called meeting with little or no forethought.

Our neighborhood missed an opportunity to openly discuss what officers, by laws etc. we need and then come back, nominate, and vote at the next meeting- now we will have to do this all again.

Novice, thanks for answering those 5 questions I just found them on this site having never seen them in an e-mail.  Two other neighbors have already done so I noticed.

MY ANSWERS to the 5 questions:

1. Yes I would nominate either Jerri Shevlin or Joe Suarez as Chairman.

2. Why limit it to the current chairman or anyone who had served before on this crime watch? That sounds too parochial and exclusive.  Read above- we have never had any officers to speak of.   We need new fresh ideas and new consistent energy!

3.  2 years with option to serve one more 2 year term.

4.  Yes, we need these bylaws since we have had past 3 years of autocratic leadership with no input from other neighbors nor even requests for help. We are crying for a "participatory" leadership/management style in our Chairman. This is a community!

5. No longer can it be informal - we have paid (and are still paying) a 3 year price for that loosey centric structure.

Novice, please hang in there- don't move out yet- give your Harry Stone neighbors some time- we will get there with a vibrant, open crime watch soon!  Seriously, I will be glad to contact your parents if you wish and contact me.

To:  Any Harry Stone neighbor-  I encourage each of you to answer these same 5 questionsfor the Chairman (I guess that is who is asking them and not Pecan).  Great discussion starting points and I hope the volunteer committee will consider them.

Also if any neighbor wishes to discuss part or all of my posting further or privately, feel free to call me.

Once I heard of the alleged threat against Ms. Green, I alerted the Dallas Police.  They have been in contact with her and discused the issue completely.

I called Ms. Green and asked if the threat was real or a misunderstanding / miscommunication.  She assures me there was a significant misunderstanding and feels in no way that anyone in the HSCW area / organization is out to harm her.

Having closed this issue with her, I encouraged her to attend and support an orderly transition of HSCW responsibilities at the earliest possible opportunity.  She has agreed to do "whatever I can to help this area stay safe and become better".

I take her at her word and look forward to the next HSCW meeting where elections will be held and some solid ground will be laid for the future success of the HSCW area.
