We had a short meeting this month and will not be meeting officially for the summer months of June, July and August. We will host a National Night Out picnic on August 5th and we may organize volunteer work parties for trails or landscape work around Hayhurst Elementary. If you would like to be added to our email list and receive meeting notices, crime watch announcements and volunteer opportunities, please contact Lillie Fitzpatrick at LF@PDX.EDU.
Parks and Environment:
Joe Higgins and Chris Raydon-Feeney continue their work on developing a common survey to assess the use of school property by neighbors.
Transportation:
Mark Lear, PDOT, will give us an update on pedestrian islands on Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy at the Bridlemile Neighborhood Association Meeting, May 14th.
SWNI:
SWNI general meeting will be held May 21st at the Multnomah Center. There will be a speaker, slide show and refreshments. Everyone is welcome
to attend. SWNI officer elections will be held during the SWNI board
meeting, May 28th.
Safety:
The SW Community Center is urging parents and other adults to help
chaperone Teen Nights at the center. Please contact the center if you can
help. It is a great opportunity to network with other parents. The Safety Committee had guest speakers from Project Respond (PR), a mental
health mobile service providing crisis response anywhere in Multnomah County. PR can assist with neighbor issues where behavior is questionable;
they can come out and do an evaluation collaborating with Portland Police.
They are dispatched through Multnomah County Crisis Line 503-988-4888.
Fun:
An evening neighborhood National Night Out picnic is scheduled for August 5. Pendleton Park is already reserved for this fun event. It will be a dessert potluck. We are seeking donations of goodies for the kids, ideas for activities, and volunteers to help with the planning. Please contact Shannon Kelly at skelly@chnw.org.
Cedar Sinai Park:
Bill Stinnett announced there is a CSP board meeting on June 4, at 7 pm. Neighbors may notice additional traffic that evening near CSP. CSP will launch a new website on which resident activities will be announced. These activities will be open to residents and their families only. In preparation for a survey on the 10 acres CSP recently purchased on Boundary Street, the land was mowed and blackberry bushes were removed. The illegal bicycle track located in the woods on the property will be leveled this week.
Safeway:
Daron Cottingham, Asst. Manager of Safeway, attended our meeting this month and expressed Safeway’s interest in collaborating with the NA. We appreciate his initiative and look forward to working with Safeway to build a strong business and neighborhood network.
Our 03/04 Action Plan was unanimously approved. It directs our neighborhood involvement in four key areas: Environment, Transportation, Community Outreach, and Safety. Please contact Lillie for a copy.
