The NeighborhoodLink "Please Sign In" link and the Highbury Park "Become a Member" page are two separate items.
Going through the steps to create a NeighborhoodLink username and password doesn't link the person to any specific neighborhood. It gives that person the ability to do the following things on websites of the NeighborhoodLink network: Post discussion topics and replies, add calendar events, and create a meet your neighbors page. The personal information shared here is not available to anyone else in the neighborhood; it's only for NeighborhoodLink internal use.
Because of that, NeighborhoodLink needed to come up with a way that site coordinators could collect contact information from people using their site. This was especially important for groups which have voluntary membership or for those who recruit members. When someone fills in the information on the Highbury Park "Become a Member" page, it is submitted only to the email address(s) listed on the Contacts page (In this case, to the Highbury Park Webmaster). None of the fields on that page are required. The Highbury Park Webmaster's use of this information might include building a list of email/mailing addresses for important announcements, but it will never be shared publicly.
