You get to know your neighbors to develop a close-knit community.
You have FREE access to the meeting space at Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. ("NNI") for neighborhood meetings which also includes use of computer systems, projectors, copy machine, fax machine and the assistance of NNI's staff.
You will receive a certficate from NNI that certifies that you are an organized neighborhood. This certificate allows you to participate in the voting process to elect new board members at NNI's annual meeting in June.
You can work on safety or community issues as a group, such as the need for sewers, streetlights, or other concerns within your neighborhood.
You can join with other neighborhood groups to lobby for specific issues that affect your neighborhood.
You are much more likely to get major issues passed through City Hall. When an organized neighborhood goes to City Hall to address a concern, the City Council is much more apt to listen and take the issues seriously. There IS strength in numbers.
Depending on the median income of your neighborhood, your neighborhood could qualify for grants that will help you build the "capacity" of your organization and/or help those in need to fix up their homes to make them more livable.
You will receive an NNI monthly newletter with important information of what is happening in the Northland.
You have the opportunity to meet with other neighborhoods and police in the Northland and the Metro Kansas City area to learn how they handle specific problems
You have the opportunity to work closely with your local code inspectors and police officers to fight code issues and crime in your neighborhood. A neighborhood that does not have an organized association is more likely to have problems with drug houses, gangs and prostitution.
