Dear Highland Park Neighborhood Association Members,

It is with deep regret that I inform you I am resigning as President of the neighborhood association. We are putting our house on the market at the end of January and moving from the Highland Park area.
My family and I have enjoyed living in The Highland Park neighborhood for the past 15 years.
We will greatly miss our walks to the recreation center, the Southside Lions swimming pool in the summer and the Southside Lions Park where we would sometimes ride our bicycles around the small lake or just see what interesting birds we could spot.
We will also miss seeing the Xeriscape Garden in full bloom attracting all kinds of butterflies and birds.
We have enjoyed helping the neighborhood association in whatever way we could and will miss those second Saturday meetings.
However, I know I am leaving you in the very capable hands of Jack Elder, HPNA Vice President, Lloyd LeBlanc, HPNA Treasurer and Rachel Cywinski, HPNA Secretary.
I know they will continue their volunteer work to make the neighborhood one of the best areas in the city to live.

A New year

A note from Rachel Cywinski, HPNA Secretary

When I asked Patricia and Jack to run for office, they both mentioned that they might adapt to family situations by changing their living arrangements this year.
And of course any time someone accepts the daunting task of Vice President it is always with knowing that at some time the President may leave and the Vice President may become President.
But doing so before the first meeting of the new year is startling, and in this case quite unexpected.
Please do your best to help the association through this transition by volunteering what time you can.

Looking toward the future, I also encourage all of you to consider persons who are active in our community to whom you may give gift memberships. Although my paying the dues for two area pastors did not result in increased participation on their part, nothing has been more true of the other persons to whom I have given a gift membership. In fact, four of the persons whom we elected to be 2005 officers are persons to whom I at one time gave a gift membership. All of them were already active in the community, but were not formally members. This year they all paid their own dues, and the contributions that they have made to this community are priceless.

So start the new year with the gift of community?—and a gift membership in the Highland Park Neighborhood Association. It?’s an investment in all of our future!
