We appreciate the assistance given to us this summer by San Antonio Water System intern Jeremy Rice, and summer staff members Michael Perez, Michael Torrescano and Mary Burke, who provided information in the Highland Park community and assisted to sign residents up for programs, as we had requested.
During the June HPNA monthly membership meeting, HPNA members agreed to sign up to each reduce their water usage 10% from last year, in order to get a rebate for each person and the Highland Park Neighborhood Association.
During the meeting, residents asked Karen Guz, Conservation Specialist of the San Antonio Water System, to research and provide any assistance possible for area residents to participate in conservation measures and sign up for a rebate within the Season to Save 2002 Water Conservation Challenge. This request for help was later confirmed in a letter to San Antonio Water System. The request was granted!
The students, working at SAWS for the summer, visited around 200 homes in the Highland Park area to give a free water conservation kit with leak detector, low-flow showerhead, low-flow water filters and a glass measure. They also signed up most of the residents who agreed to join the Water Saver Challenge to earn a rebate for permanent equipment for Highland Park.
Other assistance included helping residnets to apply for Plumbers to People program to receive free plumbing assistance.
We thank you, Jeremy, Mary, Michael and Michael, for all your help!
