The "Four Ls" in Home Security:

Locks: "All doors leading to the inside should be solidly constructed and have quality dead bolt locks. Keep doors locked, even when you are home."

Lights: " At night keep a porch light burning. Have it set on a timer. When away, make your home look occupied. Outside have flood lights activated by a motion sensor."

Landscape: "Thieves will use heavy shrubbery as a place to hide or a point of entry. Trim bushes or replace with bushes having thorns or spiky leaves. Never leave ladders outside. Secure mailboxes."

Loudness: " Noises are a good deterrent. Have an alarm or have a TV left on while you are away. Use a window sticker stating that you have an alarm system in place."
