Here are bits of news from here and there, courtesy of HRNA?’s President, Naeema Gilyard.

*The Parkers at 2170 Highview were broken into last month.?  Be on the lookout for any strange behavior.? Do not hesitate to call 911 if you see something out of the ordinary. Let?’s all watch out for each other!

*During the past month, there were 32 drug arrests, 5 burglaries, 10 auto thefts, and 1 robbery in our NPU (I).

*Major Ted Hall replaced Mr. Knox, Commander of Zone 4 who was promoted.?  He has 34 years of experience with the Atlanta Police Department.

*A Public Hearing was held for the City of Atlanta Proposed 2003 Budget.?  What was shared during that meeting was: no proposed increase in the property tax rate, but a proposed increase for garbage collection which will be about $108.60 per year + 94 cents per foot of paved street frontage and .67 cents for unpaved frontage.

*Other items are: betting and casino gambling, a study on solid waste (which could result in another landfill fight to stop it in our neighborhood); and a study for an exemption on school and ad valorem taxes for those 65 and over.? 

*We've been asked as citizens to provide our input, so let your Block Captains Linda Brantley, Emily Morrow, or Virginia Jennings know how you feel about these budget issues.

*There will be an NPU I initiative? for historic and landmark designation in our NPU which is very sparse.? We have a historic church on Philadelphia Street which is adjacent to Herring Street.
