Easy Home Maintenance Tips

Routine Maintenance can extend the life of your home's major components.

1. Clean out the weeds and other vegetation from around your home's heat pump or air conditioner.
   
    
2.  Remove the leaves from your gutters.
   
   
   
   
3. Change furnace filters as frequently as the manufacturer recommends.
   
   
   
   
4. Pull out the refrigerator and vacuum the coils.  Also vacuum out your dryer's exhaust duct.
   
   
   
   
   
    
5.  Check the washing machine fill hose for early signs of cracking.  It doesn't take too much to imagine what can happen if one of the hoses cracks open under the pressure of water.
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
6. Inspect your chimney crown (the cement part at the top) for cracks.  Small cracks can quickly enlarge during the freezing-thawing cycle.  Repair small chimney crown cracks with a product like CrownCoat Sealant.
   
    
7.  Paint provides a protective barrier.  Repair any cracking or peeling paint. 
   
   
   
   
8. Inspect the shingles on your roof.  If any are not tight, affix them with roofing cement.
