First of all.....maybe you should pay just a little closer attention to the facts before complaining.....the Garden Club DOES NOT choose the home and garden award each month....and Bill is right...many times at meetings Paula has asked for suggestions and even had a form to fill out if you wanted to be chosen or knew someone else who might deserve the recognition. We took a sandy lot and made THREE nice yards from it that look as nice as any of the ones chosen and I have never even been considered for the award but are my feelings hurt by that? No...I'm on the Board of Directors and co-chair of Bungalow Fest and all I can say....for those of you who aren't happy with what is going on....be sure to put your name up for consideration when the time comes for electing new officers and just get in there and change the world...beginning with your neighborhood and then YOU can reply to letters like this with your wisdom and knowledge of how to do everything the RIGHT way....and by the way...GOOD LUCK.

Neighbor helping neighbor

Anon, U R right about things like paint parties, etc. being positive. One ''club'' I've heard discussed at meetings and have flirted with joining but not joined, is the garden club. I think the stuff they do sounds really neat, and one thing they do is pick out someone's yard from among the folks who participate, and then all go and work on it together. I, for some reason, am a terrible house cleaner, but a great gardener, even with my back back. I will work in my yard for hours on a weekend, only to have it look just passable *lol*. Actually, it looks purty good to me, except for one area that really needs help. But, with my aforementioned bad back, it is very daunting to me to think of raking up all the mulch with my rake (! the story of Edna' rake is another post--I keep getting duds--I have a rake curse on me!), and then trying to move huge marble or stone steps, as I envision, in under the new french doors, and put in different stones for a walkway and landscaping, etc, is REALLY daunting. I keep thinking, well, if I joined the garden club, I could learn a LOT and also maybe this little mulched area could be transformed in one MORNING if they all decided to help me. But for some reason I've held back from joining the garden club. That is my own fault.

But what I'm saying is, opportunities like you are wishing existed, DO already exist, in things like the garden club, which is neighbor helping neighbor, neighbor sharing info., experience, laughter, etc. with neighbor, and community building at the same time. There's the garden club, the cooking club, etc. I love your idea of paint parties, anon. That's another daunting thing to me: Painting the inside of my house (hint, hint: last one over is a rotten egg *lol*).

I guess all I'm saying is, we do have a lot of good existing oppportunities to get involved. It is up to us if we choose to jump in, or hang back.
Yes ! Sonny Boy

I have direct comms with the Mayors action line and I keep their ear fine tuned I pass on daily cars in ROW folks who don't know how to tell time when it comes time to water their yards Its not 6:00 pm on Tue its 7:00 pm I will step back in the picture when the time is right and the wave this time might be big.
