Just a pun. Or is it a simile. Anyway, I for one was not at the meeting when the vote was taken( entirely my fault )but I would like to emphasis my ( And others as I read) point that the interaction occuring on this site (positive and negative) only shows how much we care about this neighborhood and the issues that matter to us. Whether it is relocating a trash container 20 feet or slowing speeding cars down or fighting crime of all types, an improvement ,however small,in the quality of our lifes should be celebrated and shared. Anyone who has dealt with the bureaucracy of the city of St. Pete and succeeded in improving the neighborhood even a little knows frustration and how good it can feel to overcome the barriers that can be thrown in front of you.
These things should be celebrated and shared because someone else may be dissatisfied with something and not know that they can change it. If we don't continually try to make things better then the neighborhood will decline again and no one wants that. You may not always win and sometimes it may take a long time but the effort will strenthen your spirit making others struggles easier later on.
It took three years of Drug marches every week rain or shine to reduce the drug problem that was rampant in this neighborhood. Its not gone but it is much, much better than it was. It only took three weeks to get Florida Power to add two street lights to my alley as required by the city. Three weeks and only two phone calls and there they were. Don't give up trying but also try not to ridicule someone who is excited about what seems to you as a small triumph.
A journey of 1000 miles starts with the first step and we have many miles to go. Those steps and miles will be easier if we do what we can and don't put down what others try to do.
Oops got on my soapbox AGAIN. Oh well couldn't be helped. Read you in the website pages. Have a good 4th of July . Paulb
