Historic Kenwood

Hello All!

I'm a new arrival in Kenwood. Actually, I'm a new arrival to the state of Florida! My husband and I purchased a home in Kenwood at the end of July (please check out my site in ''Meet your Neighbors''). I was wondering if we can add a bit of information to the site about elementary and middle schools. I see high school info but nothing else. As a newcomer to Florida and also a parent of a young child, school info has been an important issue for me. I had to call several different numbers over the summer to finally find out where and what type of school my son would be going to. Did you know that the zoned elementary school for the Kenwood area happens to be a magnet school? What an outstanding perk for a super neighborhood and also a great recruiting tool for quality prospective buyers in our neighborhood. Thanks...have a super day!
ps. I've been reading a lot of comments about cats and dogs in the ''hood'' so I thought I would let everyone know that I have 2 indoor cats....I dye their fur bright purple and they have 6'' fangs! I'm currently training them for sideshow work in the circus, (OK, OK, I'm only kidding)!

Welcome Diane, what a great bit of news you posted about the grammer school. I did not know this and will certainly pass it along when some one questions the schools in this area.

Diane, I have both an Elementary and a Middle Schooler and I am pleased to announce Kenwood is zoned Magnet Schools. I spent 3 years as a staff member at John Hopkins Middle School and can personally attest to its success. I was a little apprehensive in sending my ''sweet little babies'' to public school after starting out in Catholic Schools. BUT I was pleasently supprised at how well we've done. Both of my girls are very happy and adjusting well. The Elementary school is Melrose. (now being housed at Maximo due to major renovations)It too is a Magnet School. I don't know if you're familiar with the Magnet School porgram but I've been told it's Public School's equivilent to Private School. I hope this is helpful and not too late to serve your purpose.
