Hi, dogs (''dogs'' is what all us hep hip happnin' cats call our buds, doncha know):

Just to give youzzz an FYI/reminder: Today is the all-important Historic Preservation Commission Public Hearing to consider Historic Kenwood for National Register Historic District status. To all who feel this is a crucially important step in protecting and preserving our 'hood, this is an opportunity to present a united front, so come clad in your fave Kenwood tee, and if you like, you will have an opportunity to speak for three minutes at the hearing. The hearing is at 4:00 p.m., TODAY (Tuesday, 8/6/02), in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 175 5th Street North). For more info., you can call Rick Smith at 892-5292, in the city's Urban Design and Historic Preservation Division. I hope to see a lot of you there. I'm taking time off work and also missing an important committment after work for this because I feel that Historic Designation is such a huge, HUGE deal for our fabu 'hood. See yazz there: Be there, or be square!!!!!!!

Hooray!!!!

We got it! We got it! yipeee! Thanks to all who came. Good job, Edna. You seemed to capture the real feeling of living in Kenwood.

I did? Whew!

Thanks for saying that, Bill. I can't believe how NERVOUS I was. I am glad I decided against continuing to major in acting in college *lol*! I mean, if a 3-minute speech is gonna freak me out so much, fuggedaboutit, ya know? Seriously: I was SCARED. I have no clue how I came across, but I felt like I was repeating the same sentence over and over again for three minutes: Basically, Historic Kenwood truly is a community by design, it is a living legacy of it's own, human-scale historic design, and therefore is a precious treasure worth preserving.

Whew, I'm glad that is over!

You know what is SO neat? I sat there in Council Chambers, and I suddenly was overwhelmed with this feeling of such pride and love for our dear 'hood!!! We've come so far in a relatively short time. Who would have dreamed six years ago that it would all be coming together like this today? I was truly almost welling up with tears! I just thought of something: If Kenwood can come this far in a few short years, there is hope for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, too *lol*! GO, RAYS!!!
