Construction is completed and it is looking fantastic! This project has widened Beatties Ford Road from two lanes to four lanes from Oaklawn Avenue to Russell Avenue. Booker Avenue was realigned with Oaklawn Avenue in fall 2002. Originally, drainage work in the Washington Heights Neighborhood had delayed the completion date for the Beatties Ford Road Project until November 24, 2002. Due to Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities waterline work that will begin in November (and last approximately four to six weeks), the final paving will not be completed until April 2003. Landscaping is expected to begin in November 2003, at the beginning of planting season.
Construction is underway. The Washington Heights Neighborhood Improvement project's construction contract was awarded on May 13, 2002. The contractor, United Construction, began work on the storm drainage system along Celia Avenue, Dundeen Street and Redbud Street. For the next three to four months, the contractor will focus on compoleting the drainage work along Celia Avenue and Dundeen Street, and begin grading for the extension of Redbud Street from Tate Street to Dundeen Street. Once this section is complete, sidewalk construction along Dundeen Street and Booker Avenue will begin. The waterline work is expected to be complete in the next couple of weeks. Al infrastructure improvements are scheduled to be complete by May 2003.
