1. Neighborhood policing by you and your neighbors, together with your assigned Crime Prevention Team, creates a greater sense of security, well being and reduction of fear of crime, because you have developed a relationship with police and all your neighbors. 2. You reduce the risk of being a crime victim. You are taught how to take preventive measures. It helps to reduce the risk of your home being burglarized, personal assault, auto theft and other crimes. 3. You receive training by crime prevention teams and police officers on how to observe and report suspicious activities. You learn what information police need when you report a crime and why. 4. You get to know your neighbors, an important component. You learn about your neighbors' routine activities, how many children they have or if they don't have any, whether there is an elderly person alone at home, and when the house is unoccupied. You develop a phone chain to be able to contact your neighbors quickly, should you see something unusual when they are at work or on vacation. 5. You have greater access to criminal activity information. Your police neighborhood watch liaison can inform you of crime trends or patterns so you are better prepared to spot criminal activity in your neighborhood. You receive monthly emails that include safety tips and crime statistics from the previous month for your neighborhood. 6. Training is provided on how to protect your identity, your credit cards, learn how to protect your children from Internet predators and many other issues that affect our quality of life. 7. Once you have created a phone chain, you will be able to communicate with your entire Neighborhood Watch group. You will have the ability to forward information you receive in reference to crime trends or other community concerns. You will receive Neighborhood Watch signs and this will alert the criminals that ''eyes and ears'' are watching and that you have taken steps to deter their crime. 8. A true relationship with and knowledge of your local law enforcement, your elected officials, and your neighbors will definitely give you great strength as a community.
