Neighborhood Watch Committee 2011

Posted in: Houston Farms

Welcome to the new Harris Houston webpage! The
inspiration comes from the formation of the 2011 neighborhood watch initiative.
Lets all band together and realize the full potential of this small established
community. We have a lot of things going for us with this small community of
homes I feel that we can create a large change. Lots of ideas are floating
around, all we need to do is grab one out of the mix and create the change we
already imagine.

On July 12, 2011, officer Botzenmayer came to our
neighborhood watch meeting and presented a very informative presentation on the
CMPD, statistic in our area, safety tips, financial incentives, neighborhood
activities and classes that are available to improve our personal and community
lives.

I am personally excited about the plethora of
resources and opportunities that are available to residence of Charlotte. I
would personally like to take a class on grant writing and attempt to provide funding
to install solar cells on every roof in the neighborhood, as this has been a
lofty dream of mine for years!

Lynn Coffey has a wonderful idea about creating a garden
in the natural area that is behind Watermoss lane and utilizing the un-used
pool in the neighborhood across the street.

Also, officer Botzenmayer informed us that we have
the ability to volunteer our time in a beautification project for our
neighborhood and get reimbursed by the city of Charlotte! What a great chance
to fix up the entry area with flowers and de-weed all the while getting paid to
do so!

Any issues with stagnant water from unused pools, excessively
tall grass or general nuisance issues should be reported to 311. Officer
Botzenmayer encouraged us to report suspicious people or cars. CMPD will monitor
the area more vigilantly when people speak up. We need to band together to keep
our neighborhood safe.

Another topic of conversation is speed bumps. With
the addition of the new neighborhood and the extension of Watermoss leading to
the Briar Field Apartments, we have seen a significant increase in traffic.
Many of our children play on Watermoss and we would like to see everyone slow
down. Lynn Coffey is looking into getting a monitor from the city of Charlotte
to be placed on Watermoss Lane in attempts of qualifying for a speed bump. Suggestions
until we can get our speed bumps are to place orange cones in the middle of the
street at the entrance and exit of Watermoss Lane, while our kids are playing. Any
other suggestion and ideas are encouraged.

I would like to turn the floor over my fellow
Houston Farm neighbors and see if we can create a think tank of positive ideas....
