Annual meeting

James,

How did the annual meeting go?

Please tell me people didn't vote for Cecilia.

Thanx

Annual meeting

We did not have a quorum so everyone on the current board decided to stay put. I think homeowners' participation this year's annual meeting was even less than last year's so I guess everyone is happy with the way the current board is operating. However, I would love everyone to sign & send in their proxies in care of the current board so we could achieve a quorum in favor of the current board. This would be more legitimate & official.

Cecilia kept asking why the City hasn't done anything with the flooding issue but I'm sure she knew that it couldn't be solved overnight. The City sent several crews out to run camera through the sewer lines (both sanitary & storm) and found they were cleared. So the problem lies with sewer line ''capacity'' and storm drains gravity flow, not clogging. Therefore, nothing could be done quickly. Storm sewer capacity expansion was put on the list. Minimum waiting time on the list is 3 years and could be longer depending on City fiscal year's budget.

Street flooding is not a new problem, I have seen it since I first moved here in 1992. Previous boards if they had done something about it and consistently complained to the City back then and as loud as we are now, flooding problem might have been solved by now. Anyway, we have more important things to do for SPW. Flooding issue should be a joined effort from all surrounding complexes, mosque and businesses, just like Rookin St issue. We all know not to drive through a flooded street. It would usually take about 30 min for the water to clear out and there is a way round the flooded streets, SW freeway feeder road into SPW outermost driveway (adjacent to Road Runner fence) is almost always free of high water.

Another thing I want to point out is another one of Cecilia's questions: If any homeowners want to get financials & meeting minutes documents, all they need to do is to show up at Randall Management office and get all the copies they want. They don't need any pre-approval from Randall or from the board. Ex-board members should know better than everyone else. They must pay for the copies made and they must realize that documents would only be available after it had gone into archives, a couple of months later than the current month. Homeowners had voted for us to represent them to manage SPW and to conduct SPW businesses with RMI. So RMI must devote their time and attention to the board as far as documents are concerned. Homeowners not on the board should not receive the same treatment as board members. If all 130 homeowners are asking for the same documents, who would have time, manpower and money to comply? Imagine RMI had to deal with 10 complexes and thousands of tenants asking for documents. What the boards for? It doesn't work that way!

Please give it a little thought & common sense before you scream for RMI to do anything other than emergency repairs related to common SPW structures. If you need any SPW documents, just go there and get it yourself.

It's that time again for the annual meeting and voting for board members.  Again, I'm looking for someone to replace me as SPW Treasurer.  I have been on the board long enough (3 years) which is well past my term.  Some of the other current board members have stayed past their terms as well.  WE REALLY NEED A QUORUM THIS YEAR EVEN THE HOMEOWNERS WANT THE CURRENT BOARD TO STAY PUT.

For me, I have contemplated to resign a couple of times, to give someone else a chance, but each time found no one and then I decided to hang on, just so I could help SPW on a few more issues.  I would not feel comfortable leaving my position while I have not found the right person for my post.  Along with other current board members, we just don't want to see the return of some bad board members (some of us knew exactly who they are).

With that said, I'm urging all homeowners to return your proxies to Randall or to a current board member.  You could leave it blank and let the current board members fill in the blank, whoever that they think are qualified to be on the board.  Please educate yourself on SPW history so you know who were the bad board members so you won't vote for them back to the board.  It's the ones that tried to borrow 2 millions in the name of "rehab" and could have get us in deep mud for the next 30 years.  The current board completed the rehab on a "pay as you go" basis within 2 years and were able to reduce the maintenance fees by 23%.

Now if someone knocks on your door, be sure you know who you are speaking to before giving him/her your proxy.  Best is to send it back to Randall or hand deliver it to a current board member.  Kermit James, John Atar, Casey van Vugt, Sam Shirazi and James Nguyen are the current board members.  If you don't know our faces then don't trust anyone knocking on your door claiming to be collecting support for us.

Thanks all.  Please participate to help SPW and send back your proxy before January 14, 2009 or we'll see you at our annual meeting.
