Problems in the neighborhood.....
The Sheriff's Office has reported that there have been numerous ''Smash and Grab'' incidents recently. A ''Smash and Grab'' is when a window is broken out in a vehicle and things are stolen from the vehicle.
Several weeks ago, this was happening mainly in the Deerwood Estates subdivision. As recently as during the early morning hours of 3-19-05 there were several of these incidents in Macomb Hills as well. One incident took place on Freda Dr. near Stephen and the other one on Jessica Dr. near Freda. The vehicle on Jessica had a smashed window and an in-dash stereo was stolen, though at this point we don't know if a police report was filed. The vehicle on Freda had a smashed back window and at this point it seems there may be nothing that was taken from it but the owner is still going through things. The incidents are reportedly taking place between 2 AM and 5 AM. Last night there was also a Smash and Grab in Sawmill Creek that was reported to the police. This is happening all around our area. Please be alert!!
Please call dispatch at 469-5502 if you need to report an incident of any kind or if you see something suspicious or out of the ordinary. If it is an emergency you may certainly dial 911. Please note that the above dispatch number is a new number!
We would also like to ask that you keep an eye on things as you are driving in and out of the subdivisions especially in the hours after dark. If you see something that just doesn't look right, call dispatch right away and they will send out a patrol unit to check it out. If you get up during the night and are out of bed, take a minute to look outside around your home and in the street in front of your home. Once again, if you see something suspicious, call dispatch immediately.
