A neighborhood Tale

Feb 26, 2002

Please allow me to share a ?“tale of two Volunteering for the newsletter committee is providing the opportunity for me to meet new people, learn how to put a newsletter together and my favorite part ?—?– allowing me to test my had at writing a few articles. Please allow me to share a ?“tale of two neighbors.?”
In or around April or May of 2000, I took my son, Russell, to get a haircut at the local Fantastic Sam?’s. Liz Brown was the stylist. I decided to get my own hair cut and requested Liz to do the job. Liz and I struck up a conversation during my haircut.
We discovered that we both had boys. Liz?’s boy is Danial (7) and mine is Russell (10). We decided that we should get them together to play before Danial went away for the summer. Eventually, we got them together and slowly they became fast friends.

Since that first meeting, we have shared many fun times together discussing ,visiting restaurants, shopping, camping, swimming, and more.Often, Liz and I barter for help that we need. For instance, once my guitar needed tuning and Liz gave a haircut to the man for the tuning in exchange for my keeping her son after school. By the way, the tuning was done by another Hunter?’s Mill resident.

Liz?’s mom recently went back to Germany, so Liz needed someone to care for Danial two days a week after school. I am now taking care of Danial two days a week and it has enriched my family?’s life as well as helped the Brown family. Our sons enjoy immensely the two days per week that they?’re together.

Neighbors helping neighbors?—?–a nice way to live.
