As Hyde Park Condominium community residents, we would like to feel as sense of security and safety on a daily basis without worrying about the potential for criminal activity happening in our midst. Unfortunately, we live in an environment whereby street transients, strangers and sometimes visitors of residents can have easy access to our condominium community posing a tremendous threat to our safety and security as residents. There have been reports of outside strangers camping out on the entrances of condo buildings, soliciting as salespersons in an attempt to gain entry into someone?’s unit, hanging out in basements, car vandalism, someone tampering with building common area lights, excessive loitering in some areas and a few break-ins. Overall, our community is rather quiet and peaceful which serves as the perfect bait for unsuspecting criminal activity. Therefore, it would be wise to exercise caution and awareness of what is happening in our surroundings. Interest has been expressed to establish a community ?“neighborhood network watch?” to monitor and report any suspicious activity in our community. The only way to address and fight crime before it takes root in our community is to become aware, unified and proactive as a community and to work with our local police as a resource. We are currently consulting with the Gaithersburg City Police on establishing community patrols and a Neighborhood Watch program for the condominium community. This will take everyone being more involved and aware of what is going on.
