The WTC Resident Respiratory Health Study will determine the extent of breathing problems among residents near ground zero. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control, the study is a collaborative effort of the NYS Department of Health and NYU's School of Medicine. It consists of an initial survey delivered both to households in the area and far away from the area. Four residents in each household, both children and adults, are asked to complete the survey, whether or not they have any adverse breathing or lung symptoms.
Survey questions pertain to current and past breathing problems, lung disease, and the state of apartments after 9-11. As a token of appreciation, the researchers give residents who complete the survey get a few free transit cards, each good for two rides.
If you have not sent in your breathing survey form, please do so today. If you have misplaced your form, please call Dr. Joan Reibman or Anne Hoerning of NYU at 212-263-6479.
