Chimneys

Chimney

Glad to see that it was contained to just the chimney. Just out of curiosity, was there anything found structurally that would have contributed? I burn wood but not to the extent you do. I also have a Davis home. Just want to make sure everything was correct in the construction. My fireplace had a gas log and I had it converted to wood. We just have a gas log starter now.

Chimney

We are still in the process of having it inspected. So far everything seems to be in order. Some of the observations of the framer was that the pipe did not have a lot of build up, but the chimney cap did. When we had it swept, it was done from the inside. I do not think that the sweeper got the cap. The only damage from the fire was at the top. This is consistant with the ignition point being the cap.

Thank you. I saw it from this side of the lake after the fire department got there and that is what it looked like. Glad to here the damage was contained to the chimney.

Chimney logs

We also use the four hour starter logs and usually have a fire once a week. I spoke to a chimney sweep and he said the cleaner logs are a waste of money. For around a 100 dollars you can get yours cleaned and should last about three years, if you only use your fireplace during the coldest months, no matter how many times a week. Glad everyone is safe.
