Church Festival

Posted in: Farley
Two weeks ago Chapel Rock Christian Church held a festival. I live near 10th and 465 and the music was so loud when I stepped outside while talking to my husband on the phone we couldn't even hear each other. I understand they had a permit. I can't imagine what the homeowners close to Girls School Rd went through. The high school isn't as thoughtless as the church is when it comes to disturbing the peace and quiet of others.
Am I the only one annoyed by this?
Chapel Rock Festival

Dear Neighbor: YES! We received numerous complaints about this event and the extremely loud music. I placed a call to the church office on Saturday and left word for the minister. I received a call from Vicki Crawford, Ministieral Assistant who took our complaint and advised she would call me back. She did so and stated the festival was held last year with no problems. I advised her the speakers must ave been turned up louder this year. She also stated the atmospheric conditions were so calm and the air so still, it carried the sound further (??-I don't believe that was the only reason it was so loud.) They also had over 3000 people there and the streets around our neighborhood were jammed. I suggest they might cancel next year's festival or move it to a different location. Although she apologized for the irritation to our neighborhood, she did not offer a solution for future events. I am not completely satisfied with that response. Several residents called the Marion Co. Sheriff, but since they had a permit, they did not pursue the complaint but did go to the church and made sure it closed at 10:00 PM as scheduled. Sorry for the problem.

Greatful for festival

You are probably not the only one annoyed at this event. I however am greatful for it. I was a great outreach to the youth of our neighborhood. When I drive around the neighborhood and see all the kids with time on their hands and no where to go, I was glad to see that night that they could at least go and sit on the hill and listen, even if they could not get in. So it was a little loud, but what is one night if those people were inclined to go and find out more. I know for a fact that some of these kids are going up there now to church. They have someplace to belong and be accepted how they are. From the letters I read here I doubt that they get the warm fuzzies from people that live here. If it will help the kids/people I am all for it.
I would like to see more positive things you see here in the neighborhood and not just the complaints. Some of you people must be very unhappy with your own lives to complain about everyonelses so much.
You have to meet people where there at and quit trying to bring them up to your level.

Dear Responding Anynymous Neighbor,

Yes, the event could have been a pleasant experience for all concerned, however the noise level from 3:00PM to 7:00 PM seemed excessive and created an annoyance rather than a ''warm fuzzy'' feeling on the part of many residents. Should this even be scheduled again, the level of noise must be tolerable for residents in the surrounding areas. Would you tolerate this from one of our Farley kids ''garage'' bands or a very large home gathering with loud boom boxes and stereos? It has little to do with our tolerance for the event and its purpose...it has to do with the loud, disturbing music for seven hours straight.

Thank you for your response and be sure that we have a deep respect for Chapel Rock Church and its influence on our neighborhood. We have many families here in Farley who attend Chapel Rock.
