On August 3rd a Farley resident was beaten on the streets of Farley neighborhood. He was beaten by 4 to 6 teenagers that are Farley residents also. These are the same teeneagers that are destroying mailboxes and vandalizing cars along with harrasing residents. From my understanding these teenagers were in the middle of the road and refused to move. The man yelled at them and words were exchanged. He proceeded to the Gas America where his wife got out of the vehichle to go inside. The teeneagers showed up and words were exchanged again. The man got out of his car and he was beaten. He suffered several cuts requiring stitches and also tore his achilles tendon requiring extensive surgery. One teen ager was arrested and found to have an extensive criminal history. I pose this question. Where are our neighborhood patrols that we were told we were getting? What is the association doing to rid our streets of whatm seems to be a form of gang activity? As an association can we hold parents responsible for the action of their teenagers? A concerned resident

Man Beaten in Farley
Dear Anonymous Neighbor: We too, are upset at this incident. However, we DO have patrols. They are in and out of our neighborhood daily and nightly. They have made several stops and arrests of teenagers involved in criminal and harassing activity. You need to understand, we will never have a patrol car assigned to Farley 24hours a day - 7 days per week. There are not enough deputies to cover the Wayne Twp area. It takes many eyes and ears to keep the neighborhood aware of problems. We depend on our neighbors to know if a problem or potential problem exists. If you are one of those ''eyes and ears of Farley'' , we ask that you contact the Marion County Sheriff's office and give any information that you feel would assist them in patroling the area. They need specific information and will respond if the situation is of immediate urgency. Our biggest problem with teenage vandalism and illegal activity is lack of parenting and parents who do not know where these teens are. As an association we have no power to hold the parents responsible. We can report gang activity to the Gang Task Force (and we have done so more than once) and ask for assistance. Again, specific information must be given. General accusations and non-specific complaints are impossible to monitor. Call Marion County Sheriff's Dept at 231-8200 and ask for The Gang Task Force You may also want to speak with Pat Wood, Farley's Crime Watch Director Tele# 247-1962 and let her know your concerns.
