Bicycle Traffic

Posted in: Farley
Hello, I regret that I have been late in getting this letter to this forum. I love living here in Farley. And I have altered my driving habits to take into account the driving habits of bicycle riders in our addition. I have never seen a bicylist (adult or child) stop at a stop sign. Persons riding a bycycle are operating a vehicle and are subject to the same laws as automobile operators. I know that if I am stopped at a sign ready to turn left and a cyclist is coming at me that they will not stop. Also if you are stopped at a 4-way sign ready to go straight the cyclist will cross right in front without stopping. Is there a way to provide education to the children, parents and adults involved in bike riding. I don't want to have somebody hurt.
Keep up the good work, I hope to be a neighbor here in Farley for some time.

Bicycle Traffic in Farley

Bob:

You have made some very good points and all bike riders (ADULTS AND YOUTH) should comply with regulations regarding traffic. Stopping at stop streets, using proper hand signals, riding on the right side of the road (with traffic) and in general, being aware of automobile traffic is mandatory for all bicycle riders.

We have discussed having a bicycle safety course for Farley and recently have contacted the Marion County Sheriff's office. We are waiting to hear from them regarding where and when it could be held.

I will let you know more about this when we get a response.

Thanks for having Farley and its riders as a concern! Glad you like living in Farley!
