The idea of a night time walk in the neighborhood to demonstrate our desire to have a safe neighborhood for all at all times is starting to brew.
I have talked about the idea with representatives from Downtown Developoment and Community Development. To say the least, they are ready to be involved.
The idea has eveloved from our neighborhood alone. What if:
All the neighborhoods surrounding downtown were coordinated to hold the walk on the same night. We would converge on the open space at the end of Walnut St. to see an awaiting bon fire.
When each person arrives they can ceremonially throw their lighted candel into the bonfire in a declaration that they no longer need a chandle to walk the streets at night.
We may need/want to do this more than once. I am certain that we will gain support from the Mayor on down the line.
We are beginning to be creative, and that will lead us toward creating our future neighborhood instead of reacting to negativity.
