Observe before reporting Animal Abuse...

Before you report anyone to the "Humane Society", please do your homework.   I was reported because someone walked by my home on Thursday morning, July 31,   walking her dogs.  My dogs were in the garage with the door cracked.  My dogs barked, and I got on my hands and knees to see what they were barking at.  The lady kept looking back at my home, so I believe I know who "reported" me. If she had walked by 20 minutes later, my garage door was down and we were ALL inside!  Friday (the next day, August 1), when I got home from work....THERE IT WAS, TAPED ON MY FRONT DOOR, from the Capital Area Humane Society, "Inadequate care of your animal(s)".  Hand written in the comments section of the COMPLAINT that was filed against me said: If you are keeping dogs in garage-please remove immediately, too hot! The section below that reads:  If our office is not contacted within 24 hours, the animal(s) may be impounded and held in protective custody at the above  location until a determination is made regarding the disposition of the animal(s).

I called Friday and left a message, and had a return call from an Agent on Saturday.  I explained my situation.  She completely understood, and was very kind,  but if I hadn't "SEEN" the notice on my door until Saturday, this could have caused us a lot of grief!

Ok, my dogs are never in the garage unless my husband or myself is with them.

My living room has 1 dog couch, 1 orthopedic bolster bed, and 1 orthopedic dog pad.

Their water bowl is by the pad so my girl doesn't have to go far for a drink, as her hips are giving out and she's 12 + years old.

Two years ago my girl went through 19 radiation treatments because of a cancerous "Mast Cell Tumor", found and removed from her leg.  I created a special device to cover her leg during this time to increase healing time.

There are runners through my kitchen so she won't slide on the floor.

They sleep all day IN OUR HOME while the air conditioner is keeping our home at 68 degrees, WITH THEIR FAN BLOWING ON THEM!

We adopted our boy from the Franklin County Dog Shelter last year, knowing he was born with hip problems and floating kneecaps.  More recently treating his new found thyroid problem.  I'd do it again in a minute because he's the perfect added family member for us and our girl.

I could go on and on, but I think I've gotten my point across.

If you see animal abuse, ABSOLUTELY REPORT IT!  But observe the situation for more than one walk-by  before forming your opinion!  I have day's off through the week, that doesn't mean my dogs are "LOCKED IN THE GARAGE" all day in 90 degree heat.

This situation won't prevent us from rescuing another friend (family member) from a shelter in the future, thanks goodness! I verified that with the shelter August 4.

Always protect your "BEST FRIENDS", from all type of predators!  Marsha
