Moon On A Dark Lake

Jun 04, 2002

Some reflections for this month:

~ The moon on a dark lake. Strike the surface and it vanishes. (Come see "Curious Savage" for more on that one!)

~ Actors are pretty sturdy folks. They have to be. What is the percentage of Americans who would willingly give a 2 minute Shakespearean monologue to a director? Or even 100 or more people in an auditorium? Not too high, I think. Plus they work in a place that is just as dangerous as any construction site; think about all the electricity, power tools, lumber, cords, weights and so on, just waiting to hurt someone who isn't paying attention? Let's face it, actors are a breed apart. Don't even get me started on technicians.

~ What I wouldn't do for anyone I probably will do for a friend just because he or she is my friend. And that's probably how it ought to be.

~ My cast ROCKS, if you'll pardon the eighties slang. But it's true. They ROCK! They all bring energy and fun to the rehearsals and give everything they have. They endure all manner of weather, all manner of dirt, all manner of...well, wildlife (including Sebbie and Malcolm) and keep coming back for more! If attitude is any indicator, this will be one of IWII's finest shows. And as usual, I wish I could take more credit for it than I really dare.

~ It is good to make friends during a play. Whether you all hang out afterward or not. It is good to make friends, period. And there should be more hugging in the world.

It's been a long May, and it's going to be a short June. But don't miss The Curious Savage! It's a wonderful piece. Take care until next time,

Tom Leveen,
Artistic Director
