I am also not in favor of attaching decals to our cars. I do have another suggestion that I have seen work in other associations. If a lantern key resident is to park their car anywhere other than their garage or driveway then they should place a sign in their window (template issues by HOA) identifying their phone number, lot number, date and time the vehicle was parked.
This has several benefits:
1. A template of the sign can only be obtained through our association.
2. Phone number and lot number does not give burglars direct connection to you or your house.
3. The date and time can be used to identify how long the car has been parked.
4. If a car looks suspicious, needs to be moved, or is in danger any resident or HOA member can call the number and inform the owner of the situation.
If the phone is not answered after several attempts the car can then be towed. Or the HOA can use their records to link the lot number to the address of the house etc. Of course there are ways around any system you put in place. But I have seen this system work well in other communities.
Just wanted to offer a suggestion that may be worth considering.
