Dogs and other pets

Posted in: Jefferson Cort

Please remember that if your dog leaves your property, it needs to be under restraint.

See The Tangipahoa Animal Control Website:

http://myhammond.com/tangi/html/tpac-laws.html

See number 2 and 4:

2 - Confine your animal to your property or have it under restraint.

4 - Do not let your animal become a nuisance by letting it chase cars, make excessive noise, turn over garbage cans or destroy someone else’s property.

Although I agree, is it really necessary to mace small dogs and children in the neighborhood?  I mean, really?  Shih tzu will hardly do any harm to a grown man and then the children play with the dog get the mace on them (these are their pets).  We are supposed to be friendly and wave???  Stop macing our pets and children.  Just saying.

Dogs can get under the wheels of a bike and cause it to go down, injuring the rider (even a grown man). Children ride bikes in the subdivision without helmets. They could hit the dog, fall down, and hit their heads on the pavement causing serious injuries. The dog could run into the street and get hit by a car. The children could chase their pet dogs into the street and get hit by a car. There are lots of safety reasons to keep dogs restrained.  It is a matter of simple neighborly courtesy and safety.
