East Entrance Spruced (Junipered) Up

By now you've probably noticed the new look of the East Entrance to the neighborhood. The new plants are low-growing Blue Pacific Junipers along the sides and Yellow African Iris down the centerline. With luck the Junipers will spread and make a nice ground cover that will fill the sides of the traffic island, while the Iris will make clumps 2 to 3 feet wide and tall. This landscaping should be hardy under a wide variety of conditions, should require minimal care and will compliment the three Ornamental Pears in the island. After becoming established, the plants should be able to thrive under natural rainfall conditions, even surviving our periodic droughts. This is important because our entrance island has no irrigation system.

Thanks go to:
Carl Towery, Ken Frank, Buck Goss, Jim Gray, Jeff Benson, Clyde Owens and Nancy and Kevin Dobyns for their efforts on the east and west Neighborhood entrances.

Peggy Gray and Diane Towery for refreshments.

Ginger and Ralph Hampton for use of water to establish the plantings.

Bus Stops

A little courtesy goes a long way during those busy times when everyone is on the move.

Drivers: Please be careful; the sound of 3000 pounds of vehicle hitting flesh and bone is not the kind of thing you want to live with.

Parents: Teach your children to behave properly at the bus stop; give cars room to pass, respect the property of others and "Don't Trash Jacksonville."

Drain Pain

If you have a storm drain next to your yard, you know how quickly they attract straw and other stuff. It?’s a pain, b but they have to be cleaned periodically. Please don?’t shove yard trash down these drains?… if one get clogged; it?’s not a pretty sight when it overflows.
